Wheels Of War Alpha 0.2

Kadath | Comments: 0

The Wheels of War team Carnage Council has now released the newest alpha of their thrilling Carmageddon like mod for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Check it out:
EARTH, 24 June 2008: The Carnage Council is proud to announce the public release of Wheels of War Alpha 0.2!

Hey Guys, great news - version 0.2 has been released! It features a small amount of bug fixes, three new vehicles, a whole new 'Championship Racing' game mode, 5 racetracks for that racing mode (which include the 3 for DM Campaign matches), and web-based stats in the form of a global best-lap leaderboard.

It became apparent the zombies, in-game upgrades and stunt systems were going to take a while to develop. Web-based stats were always on the cards for a later inclusion, so this new race mode lets us examine how that works whilst giving you another reason to play Wheels of War. We think it ties in nicely, hopefully you will agree
If you want to read the whole news be sure to head over to their site and don't forget to try out this mod. You can get it from our very own download portal Total Gaming Files.

Happy Birthday beloved Quake!

Kadath | Comments: 6

I just looked at the news at Planet Quake and look there, it's Quake's Birthday today! Check out what they say about it:
It was on this day back in 1996 that our beloved Quake was born/released! That’s right it all began on an early summer’s day, and we’ve all never been the same since id Software unleashed this game. Take a moment to think about what Quake has not only done to, or for you, but to the world itself. All hail the grand master of online play and a creative community that still marches on, all hail Quake!

Happy Birthday Quake!

What do you feel hearing that? It's so long since the first release, what where your Quake highlights since then?
Carmack Interview about Quake Live

Kadath | Comments: 0

GamesRadar has interviewed John Carmack, Technical Director and founder of id Software, about there upcoming free Quake title, Quake Live. Here's a short part of the interview:
PCG: How much of the original game has been ported?

JC: Every single level of the original game has been touched to bring them up to modern quality standards. All the little things, like level alignment and lighting in different areas. We also integrated in-game billboards throughout the levels. So, all the levels are modernized a little bit, but there’s no pretense about this being a modern technology game. One of the key benefits of this, with the old game being a standard graphics benchmark, is that this is going to run on almost any machine you’d want to play it on, and at a very high framerate.

Playing directly inside a browser window is moderately new in that it integrates friends lists and messaging. The core of the game remains the same.

PCG: How will matchmaking work?

JC: Increasing the approachability of the game is one of the absolute top-level priorities here. If someone bought Quake III right now and found a game online, they would have a miserable experience because people playing the game right now are too skilled and experienced. We’re doing a few things to address that. Skill-based matchmaking is extremely important, so when you jump in, you’re going to be someplace appropriate. But we’re also adding things like bot-guided training levels offline. When you initially set up your account, you get to give the system an indication of what your skill level is. After a few matches, the game will see how you’re performing and adjust your choices.
